They are reputable for live shows that burn with an intensity and awaken their audience into a sweat dripping fervor. Their EP, Roll It In captures their idiosyncratic ‘Grim’ energy and takes you on an adventure into their gruesome world. Essentially it’s an EP with 6 tracks where the Grim boys deconstruct blues until they have peeled it back to their bloody roots. Distorted slide guitar that can fracture a skull abound, alongside an addition of rockabilly that blends with country to create a beat any self respecting hillbilly can dance to. On top of all that is James Grim’s distinct vocal styling; he sounds like his vocal cords have been… …drenched in whisky and scratched with rusty nails. The concoction is a mutation of genres and, sex-voodoo-delta-blues-a-billy to create a fairy tale that is not quite as grim as you may first think. ‘Been a While’ is certainly the most surprising on the EP, as it is differs to the usual Grim styling. While there is still adequate distorted bluesy guitar, there is a pop flavor to the song, which is sung like it’s a Play School parody. It’s the kind of music you want to clap along to; a style that still has you dancing, while sounding decidedly warped. While the Roll It In serves up a nice slice of the Grim ‘pie’, I still find myself inclined to want the whole ‘pie’. Call me greedy but I am not sure anything the group records could ever top a live performance. It’s certainly an EP worthy of owning, but take my advice, get to a live gig. You will probably end up drunk and pants less by the end, but this time you won’t regret it." --------------------------------------------------------------------- [embed=youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4SoP3BDpFg[/embed] [/center]
